Microneedling

Microneedling may be one of the quickest and easiest ways to restore your skins natural elasticity, smoothness, firmness, and glow. Not only does it make your skin look rejuvenated, but it can also treat acne, help reduce scarring and even reduce oil production and black heads!

What Is Microneedling?

Microneedling, also called collagen induction therapy, is a procedure designed specifically to jump start the healing response in your skin by causing micro trauma in a targeted way. Basically, your body is overreacting to the small trauma thinking that there is a BIGGER trauma and this healing process results in the release of growth factors that increase collagen and elastin levels.

What are the Benefits of Microneedling?

Microneedling decreases the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, skin laxity, and scarring, making your skin plumper, more textured, smoother and definitely softer in the process.

Dr. Mattone enhances your Microneedling results by taking advantage of the controlled micro channels created by the needles. These micro channels allow her to deliver topical hyaluronic acid (HA), growth factors and peptides specific to your skin concerns deep into your skin during the treatment. After the treatment, IS Clinical Vitamin C ProHeal is applied liberally followed by a soothing peptide mask for occlusion which will help close the micro channels.

Another huge benefit of Microneedling is it helps reduce acne scars which are notoriously difficult to treat. Scarring is a result of a natural process called fibrosis. This is good when healing, because it makes everything stick together, but beneath the skin the glue is so strong that it can literally pull the skin down and create pock marks or scarring on the surface of the skin.

How Does Microneedling Work?

Dr. Mattone uses InnoPen, a superior quality medical grade pen with a small closed head that encases 13 sterile tiny needles, it vibrates at high power and controlled depth. She moves the pen across your skin in a gentle spring-loaded stamping action to pierce the superficial layer of your skin thousands of times over a few seconds. A Microneedling pen should never be dragged across the skin because that will tear the epidermis not create controlled micro injuries or micro channels.

These controlled micro channels go into your epidermis and even the upper layers of the dermis to stimulate the healing response in your skin which does a few things. First, it stimulates existing damaged collagen to remodel itself into smoother, stronger collagen. Second, it releases growth factors and cytokines which promote brand new collagen and elastin production. Thirdly, micro channels make new blood vessels which supply oxygen and nutrients, creating a perfect environment for new collagen to grow.

For a super charged Microneedling experience. Dr. Mattone infuses PRP’s through the micro channels. PRPs are your body’s own growth factors that are found in your platelets and act synergistically to accelerate collagen production and remodeling, giving your skin a firmer, more youthful texture and flexibility quickly. Dr Mattone will draw your blood and put it into a centrifuge to extract your concentrated platelets, called Platelet Rich Plasma, or PRP.

What to Expect from Your Microneedling Procedure:

Microneedling is considered a safe skin resurfacing and collagen inducing therapy due to minimal damage to the skin, there is also a lower risk of hyper pigmentation and scarring with Microneedling, making it a suitable treatment choice for persons with thin, sensitive, or ethnic skin types (skin types >IIl). The procedure takes about an hour after topical numbing. Healing starts immediately as do noticeable changes in texture and softness and continues for another few weeks. You may look like you have a mild sunburn from the slight redness, but you can go to work or out on a date the following day if necessary. The results are cumulative depending on your skin. 4-6 treatments are generally recommended, every 4 weeks.

  • Reduces broken capillaries and spider veins
  • Reduces the appearance of large pores
  • Reduces acne scars
  • Evens skin tone
  • Improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Gives the skin a fresh glow
  • Gives the skin a firmer and smoother texture
  • Helps lighten sun spots
  • Acne suffers take notice: Microneedling breaks up scars, reduces blackheads, acne and pore size.

The Microneedling procedure helps to break up all the glue and fibrosis underneath the skin which allows the skin to let go of the tenting and release the surface of the skin. Naturally this results in a smoother surface to your skin. Microneedling tends to work best on scars that are small. It doesn’t work as well for large lacerations (like the kind of scars that require stitches). This procedure is also great if you have a slightly uneven texture from years of acne, but not overt scarring.

Blackhead Acne Doesn't stand a chance either!

This is another pretty cool side effect of Microneedling and is especially helpful for women who suffer from LOTS of black heads (especially those who have PCOS, or hormonal acne).

The controlled trauma and thousands of needle piercings liberate and knock out black heads during the entire procedure. Immediately after you will notice a reduction in the total volume of blackheads on your face especially on your nose. You will also notice that your pores are smaller too.

The reduction in black heads doesn’t last forever though! It usually only lasts around 3-4 weeks which is right in time for when you would need to do the procedure again. You can further reduce blackhead and pore size by using the recommended aftercare and Vitamin C serum.

Microneedling exfoliates the epidermis by removing dead skin cells that cause skin to look dull and clog pores. This mechanical exfoliation gives your skin a fresh and smooth look almost instantly.

Not only does Microneedling help treat acne scars and blackheads, it helps treat and stop acne and can be done during active acne breakouts. It seems that Microneedling results in a reduction in sebum production, makes the skin less oily and the exfoliation and removal of dead skin cells adds to success in treating acne. Microneedling can be used during active acne breakouts but keep in mind it shouldn’t be the ONLY treatment you use for acne. Dr. Mattone recommends Microneedling in conjunction with her highly effective acne laser treatment NeoClear, even in patients with skin of any color, including tanned skin. Collagen and hyaluronic acid (HA) are two integral components of your skin that keep your skin plump, youthful and line and wrinkle free. Collagen is a protein that provides structural support and framework of your skin, it naturally coexists with HA, a sugar molecule which absorbs up to 1000 times its weight in water, acting as a sponge for your skin to maintain its internal hydration.

The good news is that you are born with an abundance of collagen and HA, the bad news is that starting at age 5 your HA levels begin to drop and the enzyme that breaks it down, hyaluronidase, is activated. By the time you’re 30, even worse news your collagen levels begin to seriously decline as well. Your body can not keep up with the production demands, in addition other factors such as the sun, environmental pollution and even stress make the degradation happen more quickly as well.

When you see visible signs of aging like lines, wrinkles and sagging what you are experiencing is a breakdown of collagen and HA.

The goal of every nonsurgical treatment that Dr. Mattone performs therefore is designed to increase collagen and HA production.

Dr. Mattone highly recommends the use of a patented award-winning liquid collagen/HA matrix nutracosmetic to directly supply your body with the fuel it needs to be a super collagen producing machine and achieve superior results. Collagen levels in your skin increase and HA levels rise 6000% in one month and the best news of all, the enzyme that breaks down HA, hyaluronidase, the one that makes you age, is stopped too. 37 clinical trials prove this, you can’t argue with science and results!
